First planted in 1990, our vineyard has been carefully tended for over a quarter of a century. Located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, nearby neighbors include the historic Saralee Vineyard at La Crema, Kistler Trenton Roadhouse Vineyard, CIRQ - Brown Family Wines, and the Cutrer Vineyard at Sonoma-Cutrer.
Our prime terroir sees seasonal cool morning fog, followed by warm afternoons for ideal phenolic grape ripening. Frequent breezes from the Pacific provide cooling in the summer for diurnal temperature swings that can range by 40-50 degrees overnight. A perfect climate for growing our premium vinifera fruit.
The soil is sandy loam with shale and volcanic ash, which is also rocky, benefiting the vineyard by both retaining heat and draining well, to produce highly aromatic, flavorful fruit.
We are proud members of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers and are committed to careful land stewardship. We support the Sonoma County Sustainability Program, employ sustainable practices throughout our estate and are certified CCSW.
Water is a precious resource, we use drip irrigation to limit water usage and participate in the Sonoma County Water Agency recycled water program.
Owl nesting boxes are placed throughout the vineyard to sustainably control harmful rodents.
A labor intensive process, our 29 acre estate of vines are cared for by hand with pruning, shoot thinning, leaf removal and hedging all manually employed. Similarly, fruit is all hand-harvested at night.
Clone 4
California's most famous clone. The "Wente" Clone 4, on our cooler climate site, does not grow as large nor as tightly bunched as it does elsewhere. It produces wines that are rich and aromatic, with good minerality. Typical flavors are lots of citrus, especially lemon and lime. From the older vines we see lush, tropical fruits and green apple.
We also have Chardonnay Dijon clone 96.
Clones 777, 667 & 115
Originally from Morey St. Denis in the Cote d’Or, 777 is at the heart of some of Burgundy’s greatest reds and offers a combination of finesse and power. Pinot Noir Burgundy clone 115, is appreciated for its perfume and structure. Pinot Noir Burgundy clone 667 is known for aromatic and tannic finesse. These three Dijon clones are considered amongst the finest Pinot Noir clones in the world. They are prized for their smaller grape sizes and bunch weights, producing classic Burgundy attributes with great intensity in both fruit flavors and aromatics.
Clone 877 & Estrella
A French clone from Tarn-et-Garonne in southwest France, 877 is noted for its high quality. It renown for producing full-bodied, spicy wines with strong tannins. The Estrella "Eberle" clone represents the most highly planted and one of the most coveted Syrah clones in California. It is late-ripening with loose clusters and soft skins, which delivers a rich, concentrated fruit quality to the wines.
Award winning fruit with a Double Gold, Best in Class from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and honored as a 2019 Wine of the Year. Our Albariño is hand harvested at night. It has produced wines with delicate floral, lemon lime, apricot and honey notes, with excellent acidity.
Planted in the spring of 2023, our Pinot Meunier, is clone 5 and is organically farmed.
